High
blood pressure (HBP) affects millions of people worldwide and is a leading
cause of premature death.
In
India, 32% of people in the east, 18% in the west, 15% in the north, and 21% in
southern rural areas suffer from HBP. Globally, an estimated 1.5 billion people
have HBP, with over 700 million undiagnosed and untreated.
Causes
of High Blood Pressure (HBP) include the force or pressure of blood against the
walls of blood vessels is too high, while low blood pressure (hypotension)
occurs when it is too low. The normal range of blood pressure is 120/80mm Hg,
with three blood pressure conditions: normal, HBP/hypertension, and
hypotension. High blood pressure is diagnosed when blood pressure readings are
140/90 mm Hg or higher.
Symptoms
of HBP include chest pain, shortness of breath, frequent headaches, fatigue,
dizziness, vision problems, sweating, blood in urine, irregular heartbeats,
pounding in ears, neck, or chest.
Causes
of HBP include too much salt, lack of physical activity, obesity, too much
alcohol intake, inadequate potassium in diet, stress, genetics, and underlying
conditions/diseases.
Awareness
about blood pressure conditions is the key to living your life in a way that
would be safer and more equipped.
